The Red Bluff Bull Sale humbly began in 1941 when a small group of local ranchers and a local farm advisor decided to start a Hereford show and sale in Red Bluff. What developed out of that Hereford show 80 years later is considered the greatest stock show and sale west of the Rockies. What began as a way to promote the cattle industry has evolved into a western extravaganza, revered by consignors, buyers and attendees as the premier Bull and Gelding Sale; and a top destination for anyone in the ranching industry.
In addition to the Bull Sale the late 1970’s brought exciting changes when the sale of ranch geldings was added to the agenda, as well as a select sale of the top working stock dogs in the industry. These additions were held to the same strict standard of quality and excellence that the committee unwaveringly adhered to with the bulls that they sold. The standard for quality does not end with the consignments at The Red Bluff Bull Sale, it always has and continues to engulf every aspect of the sale. Red Bluff prides itself on the professionalism and efficiency of everyone involved; including the sale staff, ring-men and Multiple National Champion auctioneers. The defining factor of the immense success of The Red Bluff Bull Sale has perpetually been the committee that stands behind it. The Board of Directors and committee members have continuously been a dedicated, hardworking, passionate group of local ranchers and cattlemen. These cattlemen have demanded excellence in all aspects of the sale. The Red Bluff Bull Sale has held quality to the upmost importance throughout the years and that standard is strongly adhered to today, making the legendary event a must attend for the ranching industry.
Held the last week in January, The Red Bluff Bull Sale is an exciting and time honored tradition to jumpstart the new year. It has become more than a top sale of the best stock the industry has to offer; but a must attend social gathering for all in the ranching community to reconnect with old friends. The present day agenda also holds one of the largest trade shows in the Western United States, with vendors from around the nation bringing everything from tractors, chutes, and trailers, to handcrafted leather work, western clothing, jewelry and home decor.
The weeklong event is filled with festivities from seminars, clinics, competitions, dinners, and auctions. The energetic week of events ends with a standing room only Bull Riding Bash and Ranch Bronc Riding followed by a live band and dance on Saturday night.
The Red Bluff Bull Sale is a non-profit organization and is honored to have the privilege to give back to industry causes that benefit ranchers, cattlemen, the ranching industry and today’s youth. The Red Bluff Bull Sale is proud of its tradition, integrity and reputation. With your continued support the nostalgia and legacy that surrounds The Red Bluff Bull Sale will indomitably continue for another 80 years.
